Henry C. Martin is a Philadelphia-based regional plein-air painter. Using the open air as his studio, similar to the American and Spanish impressionists, Martin describes his style of painting as "atmospheric naturalism". Light is an important thread throughout Martin's work. He says, "beyond the fleeting effects of light, [he] seeks a tactile sense of space in [his] paintings, allowing the atmosphere an object occupies to become as palpable as the object itself."
Martin is an award-winning artist with extensive exhibition history, and was awarded the Cadwalader Prize for landscape painting by the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He has also taught at Philadelphia University, Abington Art Center and the internationally-recognized Philadelphia Mural Arts.
