Mark Palermo’s paintings are brimming with detail, inviting viewers to revel in every brushstroke. “I’m interested in the play between natural shapes and colors and the sharp lines and bright colors of boats, architecture, and fishing ephemera,” Mark stated. This is apparent in “Harbor, Winter Harbor, Maine,” where light and shadow dance across the water, vibrant buoys meld with their distorted reflections, and trees stand like sentries, creating a sense of tranquil bliss.
Mark graduated from the Tyler School of Art in 1983, primarily studying under Roger Anliker and Charles Schmidt, with a BFA in painting. He won two Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grants, which he used to travel to Europe and paint outdoors in Italy for six months. Mark currently lives in Chestnut Hill, where he paints diligently, often returning to paintings years later to fix passages.
